Departure approaching !

Sorting, tidying, preparing, storing, packing. Adjusting, fine-tuning the
last details, ordering the last things, trying to anticipate any last-minute
surprises. We’ve really entered the concrete phase of preparations, even if
the children are still 100% in their « normal » lives, life at home has
changed and the scenery is changing day by day!

suprises. Nous sommes vraiment entrés dans la phase concrète des
préparatifs, même si les enfants sont encore à 100% dans leur vie « normale »,
la vie à la maison a changé et le décors se modifie de jour en jour !

suprises. Nous sommes vraiment entrés dans la phase concrète des
préparatifs, même si les enfants sont encore à 100% dans leur vie « normale »,

J-50

Voilà, plus que 50 jours avant notre envol ! Le mois de mai a commencé, et cela signifie que j’ai réduis mon pourcentage à 50%… pour finir de travailler fin mai. Ceci afin de pouvoir être disponible à la maison pour pouvoir préparer concrètement les bagages, finir de ranger tout l’appartement et ses annexes… et remettre en état avant la sous-location. Heureusement, rien d’immense, mais beaucoup de petites choses auxquelles il faut penser, et comme souvent, les petites choses peuvent souvent prendre plus de temps que certains « gros points » de la liste.

Mais le fait d’avoir baissé mon pourcentage fait une différence énorme (évidemment) au niveau du temps à la maison, mais aussi mentalement : c’est le « top départ » dans ma tête. Cette semaine a été très efficace avec Laura, on a bien profité d’avancer et avec une fille au pair ce mois, c’est une aide précieuse !

On est vraiment entré dans la phase concrète !
The Triage of Perspective

Last night at work in Switzerland. Nothing really out of the ordinary: elderly patients, an adult with a drug overdose, young women giving birth, postoperative bleeding…

I wonder how I will perceive patients in Switzerland when I return in two years. After seeing people who have no access to care at all, how will I react to those caught in a cycle that constantly brings them back into the healthcare system? Or those who treat healthcare as if they were in a supermarket?

I hope—and I will try—to remain compassionate toward everyone and their unique individual stories. However, back in Switzerland, I will likely find myself questioning the necessity of certain treatments or procedures. I am deeply thankful for the blessings we have here; I never forget that my son is alive thanks to the care he received in this country.

I am glad to have the opportunity—or rather, to take the opportunity—to go and help those in areas where healthcare is less accessible, or not accessible at all. What will probably irritate me most is seeing people who are unaware of how fortunate they are just to live in a country like this, compared to so many others.

I let you thing about the « moral friction » between the logical brain knowing that a pain is valid within someone’s own experience, and the perspective brain screaming that some « crisis » are a luxury…

I will do my best to « force » myself to remain compassionate toward someone complaining about a minor postoperative scar after having seen people survive life-altering injuries with no follow-up care at all.

It also makes me think a lot, because this subject can be perceived very differently depending on which position you approach it from: patient, relative, or caregiver… and deep down, I always remain a little bit of all three at once!
60 days left !

Hey the time is flying away! Now it is 60 days until we fly to our humanitarian family adventure! We are so excited ! Also the children are beginning to really look forward and integrate the ship in their playings!

We are really happy to live this as a family. That everyone understands and finds positive things in this project. I’m really amazed to see how multifaceted it is, and how it seems that it will be a really great time and positive experience in so much distincts aspects : our family as a family, ever family member as an opening to the world we live in; a linguistic experience, a multicultural discovery, a social shared life place, professional for me as for my wife, our faith… we are sure, we won’t see the world the same way we do actually !

We can’t wait any more!

Voilà, plus que 120 jours avant notre départ!!! L’occasion d ‘écrire notre première lettre de nouvelles que vous retrouverez sur notre site (menu « blogues » -> « Newsletter »).

En parallèle, nous continuons nos envois de « prospection de dons », avec des réponses parfois encourageantes, parfois accompagnées de finances… ou pas. Mais même sans faire de don, les gens entendent parler du problème de l’accès aux soins, sont sensibilisés et ont aussi fon connaissance avec notre projet!

On parle de nous à la radio !

Nous sommes passés aux infos à la radio RJB à l’édition de midi (ma version préférée), et du soir. Jeudi matin (12 février) ils reparleront de nous entre 6h et 9h, alors n’hésitez pas à mettre RJB ! Sur RJB.ch ou via les ondes FM !

Grandes étapes !

Après la « semaine intense », on est heureux de vous annoncer que certaines étapes bien concrètes ont été franchies!

Nous avons nos billets d’avion pour le premier trajet (départ de Zurich le 29 juin!), du coup nous avons adapté le décompte sur le site internet… « deux jours de moins »!

De plus, notre recherche de sous-locataire après quelques revirements et bien des émotions s’est aussi terminée, le contrat est envoyé !

Nous avons fait notre demande « officielle » auprès de la SMG pour collaborer avec eux (assurances sociales).

…nous sommes en discussions pour les « Global Mercy » en brique (bientôt disponible – on vous redira!), et mercredi prochain on devrait passer à RJB !

C’est court écrit comme ça, mais c’était de grandes étapes incluant pas mal de travail, dossiers à lire et à remplir, variantes à chercher, comparer puis décider (les vols en avion c’est pas si simple que de dire « à vol d’oiseau », et les prix varient considérablement selon les jours et les options!)
Intense semaine

Cette semaine à été intense !

Mais nous avançons dans nos préparatifs vont bons trains. Dans les GRANDES nouvelles, nous avons reçu le « feu vert » pour acheter nos billets d’avions! Grande étape, maintenant la planification se pare d’un horaire, les questions essentiels se précisent! En parallèle, notre recherche de fonds continue, et cette semaine a été marquée par des visites pour la sous-location de notre appartement! Et ça continue, demain (lundi) nous avons deux autres rendez-vous!

En parallèle, l’école, le travail, et le quotidien continue! Et les enfants continuent aussi leur préparation à leur manière, ici Mahé a ramené tout spontanément un dessin de l’école, de notre future maison flottante, le « Global Mercy » !

Never dreamed of a brick ship ?

Now we have a lot of answers to administrative questions, so we gonna have
the possibility to do those administrative suff ! A lot of work those next
weeks. But it’s also becoming more and more concrete !

We also have to be concretely proactive for our crowdfounding campaign,
sending letters. and looking to propose a brick ship of the Global Mercy !
